For parents
- Play catch with your son or daughter as often as you can. You are not required to be a former player yourself. In fact, you can do a world of good for your child's game simply by using a baseball glove to catch and throw back and forth while your child practices with a stick.
- Encourage good sportsmanship.
- Keep it all in perspective. At the Youth level, we're just learning a game, getting some exercise, gaining some self confidence and having some fun with friends. We don't play for championships or scholarships.

Beginner Tips
Practice throwing and catching against a wall; lefty and right
Practice cradling
- Left hand at top of the stick. Right hand loose at the bottom. Reverse this.
- Practice one-handed.
- Practice shielding the stick with your body [use a full length mirror].
Groundballs win games
- Bend your knees.
- Use your body [your butt] to shield opposing players from the ball. It's a penalty to push someone from behind.
- Get your bottom hand low.
- Scoop through the ball and bring to a cradle.
Work on your endurance by running or doing aerobic exercises -- you need to keep moving when you're on offense.
On offense, stay behind a defender until you need to get open to receive a pass. If they can't see you, they can't defend against you.
Defense
- Keep your stick up to obscure passing lanes.
- Poke the gloves. Poking the crosse will likely get you a penalty.
- Shuffle your feet as you run with the offense. Don't cross your feet.
- Communicate, Communicate, Communicate with your fellow defenders.
